New Years eve is overrated.
I don’t know about everyone else, but I’ve really found that no matter how epic a new years that is planned, it normally comes out the exact opposite. This might have something to do with the fact that I refuse to queue for 2 things in life, these being for beer and for the loo! Strange that these 2 things might be linked, I know.
So instead of heading out for “The most amazing party of the year”, over the past few years we’ve rather resorted to making sure that the cooler bag is full, the braai is lit, and the pudding is made.
Our pudding of choice for New Years Eve 2011:
Moch Chocolate Cheese Cake
The ingredients are:
- 20 digestive cookies
- 15ml butter, melted
- 420g tin sweetened condensed milk
- 170ml chocolate chips (if you can use something with a high coca content to of set the sweetness of the condensed milk)
- 30g cream cheese, softened
- 30ml vanilla extract
- 425g pitted black cherries, drained
Mix the digestive cookies and butter together and line the bottom and sides of a serving bowl with the mixture. You can do this in individual bowls or as we did it in one large serving bowl.
Melt the chocolate and condensed milk together in a double boiler until the chocolate has melted and the mixture is smooth.
Add the cream cheese and the vanilla extract to the mixture and beat until smooth. Unless you have the fore-arms of a seasoned beer drinker, you might want to consider using a handheld mixer.
Spoon half the mixture into your serving bowl and top with a few cherries. Top with the remaining cream cheese and cherries and chill for at least an hour.
And the reason this will cure your hangover? Well the food coma you’ll most likely have when you wake up will definitely drown out even the worst of hangovers.
